Your Guide to a New Year’s Celebration at Home

. 6 min read

With 2021 coming to an end, it's time to start preparing for the new year and bring it in with style. Our guide will make sure you've got everything you need to celebrate at home. You’re going to need plenty of food and drink, so whilst you sort out the fun and games with your family, we'll help you sort out the nibbles and the tipples.

Stock Up on Snacks

A celebration without food is criminal, so making sure you're stocked up on some delicious bites to pick at is essential in our book. These can be savoury bites like salted peanuts or sweet treats like tasty chocolates.

Savoury Snacks

We've got a whole range of savoury snacks that you can dig into for your New Year’s celebration at home. Though, we recommend stocking up because the last thing you'll want is to run out and have nothing to munch on!

To start off, we've got delicious bags of crunchy Graze. Each bag contains a mixture of tasty crunchy bites with things like broad beans, corn, and peas. They're perfect for parties with three different flavours, and they're suitable for vegans. Graze Sweet Chilli Crunch is packed with sweet chilli flavoured broad beans, peas, corn, and corn hoops. Graze Salt & Vinegar Crunch contains a tangy mixture of crunchy broad beans, corn hoops and salted corn. Lastly, Graze Smoky Barbecue is filled with smoky tasting peas, corn chips and crunchy corn with a hint of chilli. Our mouths are watering just writing this, so you can guarantee that Graze will go down a treat with you and your family.

You can't go wrong with a bowl of peanuts - we've got a whopping 1kg bag of salted and roasted peanuts to enjoy on your New Year’s Eve day. Salted peanuts are so addictive that people don't even realise how much they've eaten - they're just that tasty! If you're family aren't nut lovers, then we'd recommend these moreish-ly good Chilli Rice Crackers. They're available in a large size 1kg bag so there's more than enough to keep you stocked up for the night and they're also vegan.

Keep your snack selection healthy with PROPERCHIPS sharing bags rather than your typical bag of crisps. PROPERCHIPS are made with lentils, but are surprisingly just as flavourful as a normal bag of crisps, they're available in 2 flavours, Salted and Barbecue. They're gluten free and vegan friendly too, and with eight 85g packs you'll have more than enough scoff down. You could also get your hands on these bags of PROPERCORN Lightly Sea Salted Popcorn, which are again suitable for vegans and are gluten free. You could always turn this light snack into a cheeky treat by melting some chocolate and tossing the popcorn into it to give a sweet and salty chocolate flavoured snack. You can keep the chocolate vegan friendly too with bars of H!P chocolate which is made with oat milk.

Sweet Treats

We recommend you stock up on chocolate because it’s a New Year’s celebration after all. We've got your traditional boxes of Roses, Quality Street and Celebrations which your family will find themselves digging through and leaving all the Milky Way's at the end. Feeling something different? Opt for these Montezuma packs of giant chocolate buttons, they're available in rich dark chocolate, and luxurious milk chocolate. Their chocolate is rich in quality, made with organic ingredients and the dark chocolate version is even vegan friendly.

For a crowd-pleasing chocolate, Tony's Chocolonely is where the hype is at. Their chocolate is Fairtrade, smooth and tasty with 4 different flavours. You've got the classic Tony's Chocolonely Milk Chocolate which is simply divine with a melt-in-the-mouth texture. One of our favourites is the Tony's Chocolonely Caramel Sea Salt, it's got the rich flavour of Tony's chocolate with added pieces of caramel and sea salt to balance out the sweetness. One for the nut lovers is Tony's Chocolonely Dark Chocolate Almond Sea Salt which has the luxurious taste of dark chocolate with added pieces of nutty almond and sea salt. And finally, Tony's Chocolonely Dark Milk Chocolate Pretzel Toffee has the same rich chocolate taste with delicious pieces of pretzels and toffee. Tony's Chocolonely comes in thick bars so we'd recommend breaking them up and placing them into bowls so they can easily be picked at…or everyone at home could just enjoy a bar each.

Looking for some sweet nibbles without the chocolate? Look no further. This recipe for Honey Roasted we've got for you is super quick and all you need are a couple of ingredients:

Start off by lining a baking tray with baking paper and preheat your oven to 160°C. In a microwave safe bowl, add 100ml of honey and microwave for 30-45 seconds, then remove and add in 40g of white sugar, and half a teaspoon of cayenne pepper (no more than this, it's spicy!). Toss in your roasted and salted cashew nuts and coat them well. Once coated, transfer to your baking tray and bake for 10 minutes, then remove and give them a shake. Pop them back in the oven for another 10 minutes, then remove and sprinkle some sugar over the cashew nuts and leave to sit for 3-5 minutes. That's all done and ready to serve!

Get The Drinks In

Everyone needs to raise a glass this New Year’s Eve to bring the new year in, so you'll need to cater for the alcohol drinkers and the teetotallers. We've got everything from wine and craft beers to fizzy drinks and low and no alcohol beverages.

Booze, Booze, Booze

Whether your family members prefers beers, wines, or cocktails, we've got everything you need to supply the goods to start the new year off with a celebratory drink.

Is there a better way of bringing in the new year than with a glass of bubbly? You’re celebrating the New Year, so go all out and pick up a classy bottle of Moët & Chandon Impérial Brut Champagne. It's bright, fruity, and packed with subtle aromas of pear, citrus, and brioche.

If you need a good beer, our recommendation is the refreshing taste of BrewDog. We've got a great selection of their craft beers, but our favourite is their original BrewDog Punk IPA which is bursting with flavours of caramel and tropical fruits such as pineapple, lychee, and grapefruit - perfect for any beer lover to enjoy.

Why not try a unique cocktail on New Year's Eve? You can stay in the festive spirit and try out a mulled wine cocktail. We know mulled wine isn't exactly a commemorative drink but add some lemonade and juicy raspberries and there you have a sparkling mulled wine. Go for a big and bold red wine like Trivento Reserve Malbec to create a rich and fruity mulled wine.

If you prefer a sweet alcoholic beverage then it’s worth trying Taylor's Late Bottled Vintage Port. If you've not had port wine before, it has a delicious and sweet flavour which will be the perfect finish to your New Year’s Eve meal. Port is also well paired with desserts like cheese plates, or berry and chocolate flavoured desserts.

We've got tonnes of alcohol for you to pick from including drinks like Bailey's, Gordon's Gin, Captain Morgan's Rum and more. You can view our entire alcohol range here.

Drinks For Teetotallers

Now for the non-drinkers, they don't need to sit there with glasses of water because we've got a fantastic no alcohol range for them to enjoy too. The teetotallers can enjoy a glass of bubbly with this Nozeco Alcohol Free Sparkling Wine, it has the same loud pop as champagne, with lovely flavours of grape and plenty of bubbles. It's also suitable for vegans.

You can also serve up some Seedlip Spice 94 Non-Alcoholic Spirit. It has a wonderful blend of all spice, berries and cardamom and goes perfect with tonic water and a garnish of orange twist peel or a slice of grapefruit.

Want to keep it ordinary with fizzy drinks and cordials? No problem, we've got everything from Coca Cola and Dr Pepper to Belvoir's Elderflower Cordial and Ginger Cordial. You can check out our wide range of soft drinks here.

Cheers to a New Year

We hope our guide has given you some inspiration to stock up on some delicious foods and drinks so you can celebrate the New Year at home. End the year right with your family, your favourite snacks, and your go-to tipple.

With that said, Bother wishes you a Happy New Year!
